Revising Non-Monotonic Rule-Based Belief Databases
نویسنده
چکیده
The update of a belief database with disjunctive knowledge which is contradictory with the beliefs of an agent poses some problems when we want to perform belief-revision with minimal changes. We define a representation of beliefs based on rules. Clauses have already been used to represent beliefs. We combine them with defaults, which allows a simple treatment of disjunctive beliefs. The behaviour of the system is analysed in view of the Katsuno-Mendelzon postulates.

Merging rule-based belief databases
The problem of revising a belief database is treated in many classical works. We will consider here the problem of merging two belief databases (BDBs for short) Ψ1 and Ψ2, operation that will be denoted byΨ1 Ψ2, and whose result will be a new BDB. Since belief not necessarily reflects the actual state of the world (as opposed to knowledge), both BDBs could be incompatible. The goal is to constr...
متن کاملRevising Nonmonotonic Belief Sets: The Case of Defeasible Logic
The revision and transformation of knowledge is widely recognized as a key issue in knowledge representation and reasoning. Reasons for the importance of this topic are the fact that intelligent systems are gradually developed and refined, and that often the environment of an intelligent system is not static but changes over time. Traditionally belief revision has been concerned with revising f...

Logic programs under the stable model semantics, or answer-set programs, provide an expressive rule-based knowledge representation framework, featuring a formal, declarative and well-understood semantics. However, handling the evolution of rule bases is still a largely open problem. The AGM framework for belief change was shown to give inappropriate results when directly applied to logic progra...

متن کاملRevising data cubes with exceptions: a rule-based perspective
Information in a data warehouse does not always re-ect unquestionable facts in an organization. Sometimes , data should be considered as representing just beliefs about the state of the world it intends to model, and could be subject to revision. We claim that a mechanism of belief revision capable of altering the contents of dimension instances is needed, in order to guarantee accurate analysi...
